SYNOPSIS
As a persistently single, obsessive workaholic, Officer Kay Park has had little success with love — a situation her opinionated Korean aunt is determined to change. While options for romance may be somewhat limited in this sleepy coastal town, that’s not going to stop Aunty Jina from pulling out all the stops. Rather than face the reality of the shortcomings in her personal life, Kay relies on her work and her skills as a brilliant investigator, to keep her mind occupied.
After experiencing a near drowning incident while surfing, Kay suffers debilitating panic attacks that threaten to spill over into her professional life. While self-medicating with alcohol, Kay’s grip on her world is beginning to unravel. When the grandson of a local Sri Lankan businessman is seriously assaulted, the hallmarks of a hate crime are present; however, Kay quickly realises that this is no ordinary case and snaps into focus.
With a state election just around the corner, Sydney detective, Jesper Boolos, is sent in to take charge of the investigation and make sure the outcome is favourable to the political powers. Smart, arrogant, and used to getting his own way, Jesper immediately gets on the wrong side of Kay. To her chagrin however, rather than annoy, this seems only to amuse him.
Determined to carry out the job with her characteristic thoroughness, Kay refuses to be swayed by whatever hidden agenda Jesper may have. Forced to work together, Kay must find a way to tolerate the handsome detective who continues to ignore the rules — rules that Kay lives by — while Jesper struggles to understand Kay’s unusual and meticulous methods of investigation. With the locals closing ranks and tensions rising, it seems the situation has the potential to ignite, and their efforts become a race against the clock.
Meanwhile, Aunty Jina has found a potential match for Kay in Jae-Eun, a good- looking, intense young man, with a penchant for magic. Kay attempts to thwart Aunty Jina’s tireless efforts to bring the unlikely pair together.
Will Kay manage to stymie Jae-Eun’s romantic overtures without insulting her well- intentioned aunt? And will she be able to find a way to trust her instincts, as well as Jesper’s, before it’s too late?
